Modern science attributes its efficacy to the rare acetylenic fatty acid, ximenynic acid, comprising over 30% of the total fatty acid composition. Ximenynic acid has a triple bond at the 9th position and trans isomer double bond at the 11th position (Liu et al., 1996).
